Creative Art Director

Position Summary

The Creative Director/Art reports to the Chief Creative Officer and assists with everyday leadership of client business, as well as the creative team. The Creative Director/Art brings ground breaking creative, and is also a highly organized time manager and multi-tasker, great communicator and listener, and team mentor. The Creative Director/Art is thinks strategically and creatively in all aspects of the job from brainstorming and internal leadership to client presentations and communications.  You see the big picture and the fine details at the same time. You help develop concepts that exceed the brief and expectations, and deliver the kind of work that gets us all recognized by our trades and our peers. This particular role is strong in hands on Art Direction and/or Design, and works alongside the Chief Creative Officer as a positive collaborator and leader within the agency. This Creative Director/Art leads by example with a hands on approach, monitors the progress of multiple projects to success, and works with the CCO, other CDs, the Strategy and Creative Teams, and the Content leaders to implement and grow the creative vision of the agency and ensure the highest quality outcome.

Job Functions

  • Hands on development, creative vision and oversight of concepts for client projects and omni-channel campaigns with a strong desire to get results
  • Clearly understand the client’s business challenges and goals, and shepherd and craft the best in class creative product from start to finish on time, on budget, on brand and strategy
  • Collaborate with, support and mentor the creative and content teams to ensure visuals, messaging, and interactive elements of a project are properly aligned with the creative vision and brand standards
  • Provide guidance and inspiration for creative partners
  • Quality control of your own work, and that of others
  • Draw from your experience and understanding of the entire creative process to pursue and promote great copy, design, and messaging
  • Develop presentation decks that build stories and include your own strategic rationale in communicating concepts
  • Stay on top of industry, creative and managerial trends helping insure that the department and agency are continually prepared to compete and win in the marketplace
  • Study the creative marketplace, assessing where the agency’s work stands against competitors, as well as our clients’ competitors creative work
  • Identify and manage network of external creative and content partners for outsourcing projects as needed
  • Help develop and manage the quarterly and yearly vision of the department
  • Work with CCO to hire, train and develop a team that delivers on agency creative vision
  • Other related duties to meet the needs of the agency or client as requested

Position Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, art direction, design or relevant discipline


  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in marketing, communication, or other related discipline
  • Minimum 6 years’ hands on design and/or art direction experience
  • Minimum of 3 years managing creative teams in a fast paced agency environment
  • Experience leading, managing and mentoring creatives across a range of personalities and experience levels
  • Understanding of all media and marketing platforms and the untapped potential as they relate to creative


  • High organizational skills, with an ability to prioritize time-sensitive assignments
  • High design skills, and the ability to communicate the “why” and the “purpose”
  • Strong ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure with meticulous attention to detail
  • A solid working knowledge of the latest versions of applicable programs including Adobe Creative Suite, Keynote, Mac Office, Mac OS, Windows Office, etc.
  • The ability to understand and work toward client goals
  • Well-developed communication skills, including ability to socialize ideas to clients and other team members, as well as present and sell clients in on concepts and executions
  • Outstanding presentation skills
  • Managerial ability to inspire, motivate, mentor and lead
