AGENCY NEWS
SCHIEFER MEDIA FOUNDER, CARL SCHIEFER, INDUCTED INTO SEMA HALL OF FAME
As the son of the first SEMA Hall of Fame recipient Paul Schiefer, Carl Schiefer built a legacy of his own by founding what has evolved into a thriving marketing agency dedicated to automotive brands. Schiefer Media was created in 1985 as an enthusiast media agency with an original focus on automotive aftermarket and related enthusiast categories. With an impressive list of clients, including Edelbrock, Mothers, Bilstein, and Royal Purple, Schiefer Media was instrumental in bringing motorsports brands to the mainstream public. He initiated advertising for automotive brands on television – a practice that may seem standard today, but was unusual at the time and significantly expanded market reach to a nationwide audience. Perhaps what sets Carl apart from other marketers is his passion for the industry; Carl raced Top Gas and Top Fuel dragsters amongst the greats, including Don Garlits, Tommy Ivo, and the Smothers Brothers. Although retired from Schiefer Media, the agency continues to operate as SCS, with Carl’s son James as CEO.
THE CURRENT: ‘THE TIDES ARE TURNING:’ HOW THE LOSS OF THIRD-PARTY COOKIES WILL IMPACT THE DUOPOLY AND THE OPEN INTERNET
We talked to The Trade Desk's "The Current" about the open Internet, consumer privacy, and what advertisers can expect in targeting shifts for the future as they begin to spend more outside the duopoly. “Marketers and brands are starting to pay more attention to how the trends are changing and where the winds are shifting,” says Jeff Roach, president and chief strategy officer at media buying agency SCS. “In other words, you might be capturing audiences on Facebook and Google, but we’re now entering a world where things are starting to shift and we need to consider the more decentralized options outside their walls where consumers are spending more of their time.”
VP Marketing Kirsten Wright took on Diversification as the panel moderator at the MediaPost D2C Brand Insider Summit on May 12th. For years Facebook and Instagram have been the go-to platforms for most marketers. They’re arguably the highest performing and most efficient sales channels. But with the rising costs, over saturation and concerns over iOS 14, more and more D2C brands are adopting an omni-channel model. Hear how these savvy marketers are diversifying their media plan and adding traditional media and other platforms to their marketing strategies. Missed the event? We got you, watch the panel on YouTube here.

SCS VETERAN, RYAN SIMONSON—A CREATIVE JUGGERNAUT, AND NOW THE NEW SCS CREATIVE DIRECTOR
After joining us as a senior copywriter at the end of 2017 to work on our largest client at the time, Ryan quickly made an impact on the day-to-day. His resume cited some pretty impressive brands before finding his way to SCS, including Starbucks, Warner Bros. Circle K and Netflix, and that experience proved valuable from the start. "There are a million reasons why we love Ryan... but at the top of that list is his amazing passion for breakthrough creativity, a natural sense of leadership, a tireless work ethic, an unflappable disposition and a shockingly disarming wit..." cited Chief Creative Officer, John Zegowitz, "We would not be where we are today without Ryan." When he isn't working, Ryan is usually enjoying the great outdoors with family and friends, and if you believe his Zoom background—he has a cabin in Yosemite Basin, and a penthouse in Manhattan.
Ryan has been leading the award winning creative charges on several past and current SCS clients including Sylvania Automotive, DECKED, Kwikset, Boost Mobile and BlackBerry, and in just a few short years at SCS, has progressed from Sr. Copywriter to ACD, and has just been named SCS Creative Director. Please send your congratulations to him at rsimonson@wearescs.com
